Syrup Mill is an Alabama seedling.
This is a Type 1 pollinator and requires a Type 2 pollinator for nut production.
This is a smaller nut, averaging 65 nuts per pound. Average is 47% kernel fill, which is not impressive and is rather on the slight side. Part of the reason for this is that the shell has a very sharp, extended-length tip. The other reason is that the shell is very thick, so there is less room for nut meat. However, kernels are usually well developed.
Resistance to scab is good in most places, but there have been severe outbreaks on unsprayed trees. The scab is easy to control, though, with a few sprayings. Harvest is around October 20th. Syrup Mill is conditionally recommended for Alabama and is being evaluated for north Florida through 2019.
