This genus of New World rosette succulents takes its name from the Greek "graptos" (marked) and "petalon" (petal), referring to the striped or spotted petals of most species. Flowers are open and whitish to yellowish. Graptopetalum may form intergeneric hybrids with Echeveria (xGraptoveria), Pachyphytum (xGraptophytum), Sedum (xGraptosedum), and others. Found in Mexico and parts of Arizona.
