Clumping Mammillaria with hooked spines and large (for the genus) yellow flowers. 2-6 dark central spines (1-2 longer and hooked), 12-15 fine radial spines. Red fruit, large seeds. From several states in Mexico: Michoacán, Sinaloa, Colima, Jalisco, México, Oaxaca, Guerrero. This species was formerly in its own genus (Oehmea, now a subgenus of Mammillaria) and it has short-lived flowers.
