The flowers of Hibiscus divaricatus have a crimson center and are up to about 10 or more inches across. The leaves are dark green, about 10 inches in length and may be long or deeply 3-lobed.

Hibiscus divaricatus usually has an erect central stem that branches fairly close to the ground. The branches are long, straight and generally ascending. The lower branches grow at an obtuse angle to the main stem before becoming ascending and produce short stems which are mainly the flowering stems.
