[ Queen-of-Sheba Vine (Podranea brycei) | Posted on November 28, 2018 ]

I designed my new garden to be as water efficient as possible (water in my area is expensive) and the Queen of Sheba vine is very drought tolerant once established. It also tolerates heavy soils and can grow and bloom in part shade.

[ Rose (Rosa 'Dick Clark') | Posted on November 26, 2018 ]

I found a Dick Clark rose bush at Lowe's. It looked rather nice and healthy. Brought it home and repotted it. This summer was unusually hot and the bush showed some heat stress but it recuperated after I planted it in the ground where it'd get 4-5 hours of direct sun.

No diseases so far and no bug damage. It seems to be a very sturdy plant.

This is a wonderful cultivar, its scent is divine and each bloom is truly unique. Lots and lots of blooms!

[ Cape Leadwort (Plumbago auriculata 'Imperial Blue') | Posted on November 17, 2018 ]

In September of 2017, I was given four plumbago plants in 10-gallon pots. Two months later, I put them in the ground outside my patio fence and have been watering them so that their soil (clay) would always stay moist. Now, a year later, they have quadrupled in size and just had a wonderful flowering flush.

During the very hot heatwaves (115 F) we had this year in July and August, I had to water my plumbagos daily and shower them three times per day to help them cope with the unrelenting heat. I had to do the same for most of my plants but the plumbagos had been leafing out just before the first heatwave so it was important to try and keep them as hydrated as possible.

[ Hot Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Jalapeno Jumbo') | Posted on November 6, 2018 ]

In my experience, Jumbo jalapeƱos are, in general, milder than the standard size jalapeƱos. In my garden, both the standard and the jumbo plants seemed to start and develop similarly, with the jumbo taking a few more days to achieve full size.
