[ Peony (Paeonia 'Coral Sunset') | Posted on April 24, 2024 ]

Coral Sunset is fantastic, nothing like I have ever seen in peonies. After a severe cold winter in which I had to cover the plant several times because it starts growing earlier than other peonies Coral Sunset is beautiful and it has spread so much in just a few years that it makes an impressive clump, if only it could bloom all summer, sigh.

What a great peony that continues to outshine so many other peonies, beautiful clumps that stand up against the wind and rain and the blossoms do not fade.

A very vigorous peony that does well everywhere I have planted it. The foliage is a lovely deep viridian that keeps its color. The bloom fades quickly into a paler shade but that makes the clump more interesting. If you just have room for one peony I would recommend this plant.

Caribou Trail along with its sibling Butterscotch Kiss were very popular in the late 1950's and early 60's, but by today's standards they would be discarded in a seedling patch. For us old timers I would love to have them in my garden now, but they are not available through commercial nuseries,

[ Hollyhock (Alcea rosea 'Fordhook Giant Mix') | Posted on January 21, 2023 ]

I'm disappointed that this grower has decided to spread the information that Hollyhocks are invasive. This plant is rarely seen anymore in gardens and not seen in the wild at all. Hollyhocks along with gladiolus were one of the most popular plants in gardens and in paintings a century ago. I think the term invasive. is being overused as most plants in our gardens are not native. When I was a kid in the 1950's every country garden had them and they seemed short lived and didn't spread at all.
