My celandine poppies are in a very dry area, under a huge double-trunked cedar tree. They seem to be happy there and self-seed a bit. They do not go dormant for me and will bloom sporadically through the season. The foliage always looks nice.

They say this plant goes dormant in summer, but mine does not. In fact, it sent up blooms sporadically through June!

Celandine Poppy is a perennial with bluish-green lobed leaves; the plants form 1&1/2-foot clumps. From March to May, clusters of bright yellow, 2-inch buttercup-like flowers appear and are followed by nodding hairy green pods. Under dry conditions, the plant may go dormant in midsummer, otherwise it may flower on and off into fall. Celandine Poppy is a good wildflower for moist, rich, lightly wooded areas. It will self-sow and multiply when happy. (Sunlight Gardens)

In hot midsummer this plant dies off in my garden, even though it starts off early spring with a bang and is sheltered in a shaded, somewhat moist area. Probably it is not getting enough water when it's hot, but it comes back every spring, so I'm happy to have it. I may rig a watering system for this bed.

I've grown this for some years in full shade with tree root competition, no special care. Lovely foliage and spring bloom. Foliage persists into summer though it may become ratty, or go dormant. Mine still has leaves now despite some very hot weather and a dry July. Slowly increasing by reseeding.
