Autumn, the year's last loveliest smile. ~William Cullen Bryant
Plan Now for Spring Color

If you want the beauty and joy of colorful tulip and daffodil flowers in your yard next spring, now is the time to start the process. Once planted these hardy bulbs can liven your spring garden for years to come -- usually many years in the case of daffodils; generally several seasons in the case of many tulips.
How to Grow and Care for Garlic

With a strong, pungent flavor, garlic is prized for its wide and indispensable use as a kitchen herb. You can buy garlic bulbs or sets from garden stores or mail-order sources. There are three types of garlic: Elephant, hardneck and softneck.
Fall Garden To-Dos

The cooler, shorter days of fall are upon us but there's still plenty to look forward to in the fall food garden. Kale, leeks, Brussels sprouts, spinach and other hardy crops offer lots of good eating and many of these late-season crops taste sweeter after a light frost. Fall is also a great time to improve your soil and protect it over the winter, and reduce the likelihood of insect and disease problems next year.
Drying Flowers From Your Garden

Long after the season for cut flowers has passed, dried versions of summer's bounty let you continue to enjoy color from your garden. Flowers that dry well are typically colorful, compact, strong-stemmed, and relatively low in moisture content. Most flowers can be preserved by air-drying them in bunches. However, fragile and moist blooms such as anemones,
Animal Fencing

Fencing is the only sure-fired way to keep wild and domestic animals out of a prized garden long term. Although it can be expensive for large animals such as deer, it may be the only way to protect your yard from costly damage.
Landscaping with Birds in Mind

Although attracting birds to feeders brings hours of birdwatching pleasure, a welcoming landscape is the single best way to encourage the widest variety of birds to visit and reside in your yard year-round. Even in small spaces, you can lure birds with just a single tree, some fruit-bearing shrubs, flowers, a birdbath, and a bird feeder.
Growing Sage

Sage is for more than seasoning your Thanksgiving turkey. Harvest fresh leaves from your kitchen garden to flavor meat and bean dishes, or toss the blossoms into salad! You can even wire dried sprigs to a frame to create an aromatic wreath or swag.
