Pink Dwf. Poinciana - Bought 3 from Robert / typicaltoed on Etsy. Arrived Sat. 12-7-19. Paid a premium price of $12 each to get free shipping & because I really wanted them. Unfortunately smallest that never did well died after Dec. 2022 freeze. | December 7, 2019: Obtained plant (3 nice 8" plants with 4 to 5 leaf brackets each) March 10, 2020: Potted up (Transplanted all from pint size original pots to 1/2 gal. pots.) February 15, 2021: Winterized (Hard freeze in 20s so brought all 3 in garage) March 12, 2021: Potted up (Moved to sandy soil in 2 gallon pots) March 1, 2022: Maintenance performed (All 3 survived winter in pots . 2 are 3' but 1 is smaller about 18". I'm watching for sprout out any day now that we are warming up.) February 26, 2023: Miscellaneous Event (Late Jan freeze got 2 but largest stayed green . All brought in garage or under good cover .so Ill watch for new growth on all hopefully ) March 15, 2024: Miscellaneous Event (New growth on all tips of both plants.) |

I bought my plant from Almost Eden Fall of 2018. | March 22, 2021: Maintenance performed (2-15-21 freeze may have gotten it. Will watch for life.) April 5, 2021: Plant emerged (Several leaves on 2 root sprouts that show variegation ) May 13, 2021: Transplanted (In a 2 gallon pot on patio.) June 7, 2021: Bloomed (All new growth has reverted to green. Just a tiny bit of var. so disappointed but still red flowers are nice.) September 20, 2021: Miscellaneous Event (By July had a growth spurt & all on variegated parts so lots of variegated leaves on a 5' plant & flowers galore in Aug. & Sept attracting humming birds. When I trim back in Nov. I will try to root variegated parts & remove green ones.) April 25, 2022: Bloomed (Full of new variegated leaves & 1st flower of 2022) February 14, 2024: Maintenance performed (leggy so trimmed to 12" & put cuttings in water to root since seeds produced solid green) April 1, 2024: Cuttings took (Roots started on 2 so I potted on April 18th. I will keep for a larger cluster & these had variegated leaves unlike ones from seeds.) |

Seems she said red shades) May 31, 2022: Bloomed (1st bloom would be opened today but went limp for some reason. I could see they were pretty red.) July 3, 2023: Deadheaded (No more flowers & most pods drying so I picked about 7 with another green for another day.) November 1, 2023: Plant emerged (Plants started emerging & 2' by Jan1. I protected from Jan. freeze to teens. Feb. 1 they look fine but no flowers yet on this new 2nd growth of Fall 2023.) March 21, 2024: Transplanted (Moved from long plastic pot to oval metal pot from Mamas. They are about 12" tall but no blooms yet.) I got at a plant trade at UL Master Gardeners spot. 1 pot of apparently 2 year old dropped seeds so I divided & got 1 nice plant I potted alone then 2 with double stems so I put in a larger pot to grow a while til maybe Fall then pot each alone. I'm overjoyed !!! | May 14, 2022: Obtained plant (Got a free pot with 3 8" plants at a gardeners trade at UL master gardeners area by colosium.) March 25, 2023: Bloomed (Larger plant in its own pot is my keeper now 12"x12" 12" with 1st flower ever that opened today. I don't see other buds but plant is healthy. One other smaller 10"x10" is flimsy so I will sell at plant sale in May. The tiniest one died off.) March 10, 2024: Miscellaneous Event (Filled out almost over night lots of new leaves that are dark purplish green & looking good. Now about 18" tall.) March 25, 2024: Bloomed (Found 1st dark purple flower near bottom of 16" plant on patio. Top is full of new dark leaves too so more flowers to come.) May 4, 2024: Plant Ended (Removed, Died, Discarded, etc) (Just finished blooming So sold to Jennifer Huggins who was glad to get it at plant sale.) |

December 1, 2020: Bloomed (Has some blooms on 6' plant so I will cut back soon to 4') February 15, 2021: Obtained plant (Uncovered so 20s freeze got it bad. In a pot against east fence it was 4') March 22, 2021: Maintenance performed (Cut to 6" may be gone. I'll watch it for life) April 10, 2021: Plant emerged (Sprout at base just showing) December 1, 2021: Bloomed (1st blooms this year.) December 15, 2021: Transplanted (Neighbor put 8' fence so I planted it on driveway edge there by our white fence. In bloom & has 3 branches, tallest is 5' another is 3' then a 1' one so it should make a nice big plant there in afternoon sun.) April 1, 2022: Plant emerged (Freeze kills all these to ground but comes up about April 1st.) October 1, 2022: Bloomed (After a month of buds in full bloom. Same pattern as red one but pink not yet) March 1, 2024: Miscellaneous Event (by driveway at fence did very well. Bloomed fall thru winter then freeze gets it. I got pictures. I cut back same as red about 3-15-20 & found 6" regrowth.) |

Other I kept as a nice multi stem cutting is 14" tall & in a pot placed in the newly acquired elephant pot just off patio by gate.) March 1, 2024: Maintenance performed (Nice 3"plants of purple & red too brought in garage for winter. Back out on patio March 1st. Red was blooming about Thanksgiving & finished in garage about Feb 1st. plant of purple in Yard died back with freeze but retuening March 1st.) |

I believe this is what Sonia Comboy gave me a starter plant of Dec. 4, 2021 It has leaves like the Purple Firespike I have. She had another plant she called that but a different leaf that gets burgubt color leaves in full sun against her house. | December 4, 2021: Obtained plant (A starter plant of 2 stems about 25" with larger dark green leaves on ends. She had it growing in filtered sun under a tree.) April 20, 2022: Miscellaneous Event (New leaves sprouting at joints all along stems so may bloom this Spring.) March 1, 2023: Plant emerged (Freeze gets it bad but by March 1st its all greened out but only about 12". Same with the Purple variety.) |

Easter 4-4-21 Rachel & Chloe brought it when they visited in afternoon. Solid white. I took pictures | April 4, 2021: Obtained plant (Solid white 15" tall with 8" fall of flowers) May 30, 2021: Maintenance performed (Last flower dropped so cut 12" stem back in 1/2 above a joint as seen to do on youtube. It made about 7 green healthy roots in the last 2 weeks so it should start another bloom cycle where it likes it on baker's rack.) September 28, 2021: Bloomed (New shorter stem 8" but full of buds that are starting to open) April 15, 2022: Bloomed (Just noting 2nd stem of blooms isstill beautifully in bloom) January 15, 2023: Plant emerged (This is actually a bud stem just taking shape on the 1st 1 White.) March 1, 2023: Bloomed (Full bloom again after a few months rest. So Pretty!) |
