Swallowtail garden seeds. Needs light to germinate. March 5, 2023: Seeds sown (Swallowtail garden seeds. Needs light to germinate. Sowing in green cell packs. Will place outside for chilling.)
March 29, 2023: Seeds germinated (Germinated, but seedlings are struggling, need drier soil. Soil was too wet on heat mat and lost several to damping off before turning the fan on. Sprinkled cinnamon on surface, drained out water, put in greenhouse for other seedlings that are just germinating. Cooler temps might help.)

Lisianthus (Eustoma) and Roses
New plants and seeds
An annual that takes 4 - 5 months to bloom. Sow flower seeds on top of the soil, press in but do not cover seed. Keep seed moist until germination. Covering with plastic wrap can help keep humidity high. Once 4 - 5 leaves have developed, transplant the seedlings into the garden 6 - 8 inches apart. Lisianthus care includes regular waterings but do not over water. Use a liquid balanced fertilizer regularly. The lovely blooms will attract bees as well. Morning sun and afternoon shade is ideal for growing Lisianthus plants in the garden. January 11, 2023: Seeds sown (Winter Sowing using the same hybrid approach I used in 2022 with good success. Using a tote as I did last year.)
February 16, 2023: Maintenance performed (Moved from outdoor location to greenhouse and put the plants on heat mats. Using blended techniques of Winter Sowing and conventional (greenhouse). Did this successfully last year and had flowers from it in late summer. )
March 30, 2023: Seeds germinated (Yes! We have sprouts! Tiny as always, but so welcome! Germinating in the greenhouse, in the red solo cups as before in 2022.)
December 13, 2023: Bloomed (Approximate date. Looking for the photo...)

Three inch ivory flowers edged in pink Lisianthus, aka Prairie Gentian. Fully double. Cut flowers last two weeks or longer. Plants grow 2-3 ft. tall, are early blooming - flower midsummer to frost. Glad to post that I had good success growing this lovely Lisianthus using a combo Winter Sowing and greenhouse technique in 2022. I had lovely blooms August - November in 6a SE Michigan. Check out my Winter Sowing blog post if you want to give it a try. Details: WS in Dec-January. Put into the greenhouse on heat mats in March. Place outside in May to grow into full size plants. February 4, 2022: Seeds sown (WS in three red Solo cups in 2nd tote. Will use blended technique to grow in late March, April.)
September 3, 2022: Bloomed (Woo-hoo, bloomed, grown from winter sown seed! )

Variety is "Old Spice" Cupani Sweet Pea.

Several seeds are splitting their outer coat. Several developed tiny sprouts and are planted in red solo cups and are now in the greenhouse.
