antsinmypants's Plant List: Grasses

A note from antsinmypants
Feel free to ask about anything in my list you may be interested in. I'm always looking to trade. Just because something isn't in my want list doesn't necessarily mean I don't want it & just because something I have isn't marked for trade doesn't mean it isn't available for trade. I stay busy so don't always get around to updating.

DND's All Seeds Swap #9 (2022) - GardenQuilts - There is a lovely stand of bamboo near my home. The stems are green and up to 2". I have tested seeds for germination and have some growing in a pot. It self seeds a bit also. Landscapers spray and maintain the grounds so I am not sure what it would do in a normal garden. I would keep it in a pot.

Hardiness zones 5-9.

Forms dense thickets along riverbanks, in swamps, and in low woods. Found on all types of soil from sea level to 600 meters.

DND's All Seeds Swap #9 (2022) - mmolyson - Butterfly host, deer resistant, seeds for birds, native, 2022

Attractive, bamboo-like foliage and dangling, flat flower spikes create a showy accent around water features. Foliage turns coppery in fall, brown in winter.

You need to consider the invasive nature of the plant, which grows from rhizomes and seeds readily. The self-sowing nature can cause numerous seedlings and make the grass a nuisance.

DND's All Seeds Swap #9 (2022) - Phytocraft - 2021

Foxtail millet (Setaria italica (L.) P. Beauv.) is one of the oldest cultivated cereal grains and the most economically important species of the Setaria genus. Foxtail millet is a dual-purpose plant grown for its grain, which is used for human food and animal feeding, and for fodder (see the Foxtail millet forage datasheet). There are many wild and cultivated types, and the latter is divided into many cultivars with differences in height, habit, the structure of inflorescences, number, and color of the grain.

Direct seed (recommended): Sow seeds 1/8" deep after the last frost. Cover seeds lightly. Transplant: Sow 4-6 weeks before last frost date. Can be planted in individual containers and then planted out in the field without dividing or they may be seeded in seedling trays. Small seedlings can be separated and transplanted directly from the seedling tray to the garden or field.

75–90 days after planting.
