antsinmypants's Plant List: Succulents

A note from antsinmypants
Feel free to ask about anything in my list you may be interested in. I'm always looking to trade. Just because something isn't in my want list doesn't necessarily mean I don't want it & just because something I have isn't marked for trade doesn't mean it isn't available for trade. I stay busy so don't always get around to updating.

2021 Chicagoland Annual Plant Swap - jqsen

Aloe Ciliaris from the Asphodelaceae family is commonly known as the 'Climbing Aloe'. It is the fastest-growing succulent plant from South Africa, reaching up to 8 to 12 feet in height. This summer-dormant plant is named Ciliaris because of its white hair-like teeth on the edges of the stem.

Zones 9a to 11b.

The elephant's foot seed starts growing with the swelling of the hypocotyl. By the end of the first year, the caudex has grown to approximately 10 mm. (1 cm.) After five years the caudex should have reached a size of 120 mm. (about 5 inches) in diameter.

During the first 3-4 weeks water regularly, probably 2x/week. You don't want the seedlings getting stressed as they are throwing out their first set of roots and leaves–again, if the seedlings dry out too much in this first period you'll risk killing the plant.

Dioscorea elephantipes goes through a period of dormancy for a few months each year. You'll know your plant has gone dormant when the vine dries up and the leaves turn yellow and drop off. When your plant is dormant reduce watering significantly and keep your plant somewhere cool and dry.

Still ISO 2023.

The most effective manner to sow seed is to use a well-drained substrate. It is not necessary to cover the seed with anything. Just keep the substrate moist to stop germinating seedlings from drying out. Whilst the seed is germinating, use a very fine mister when watering. The seeds germinate relatively quickly. In just under a year they are ready for transplanting.

Lithops seed remains viable for at least twelve years, probably much longer, and quite often a proportion of the seed sown just does not germinate when one plans that it should, but may do so a year or even two years later. In fact, it seems very often to germinate better when it has been kept for a year or two.
