Chicagoland annual plant swap - Ellen The 1884 Purple tomato variety is similar in many ways to the very popular heirloom tomato "1884": The same huge flavor, the same size and shape, and similar plant characteristics but the fruit has a reddish-purple color with dusky shoulders. Spontaneous mutation from 1884, darker and better than the original, according to Tatiana Kouchnareva who cultivated and observed it in 2006. She named it so to highlight its purple color and its difference from the original. Fruit 200 to 600 grams, beefsteak type, round, swollen, and ribbed at the upper pole. Deep and narrow depression at the peduncular attachment. Crimson epidermis verging on brown with green shoulders. Juicy and creamy flesh with a sweet flavor rich in aroma, exceptional. Received in trade from M.K. Piqua Ohio 10-2020 'Abe Lincoln' is a very old commercial heirloom, developed and released by the Buckbee Seed Company in 1923. Indeterminate, regular leaf plants that produce medium to large (6-12 oz.), round and oblate, bright red fruit with very good, old-fashioned tomato flavor. Perfect salad and canner tomato, which was donated to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 1963 (PI 648767). Introduced by the W.H. Buckbee Seed Company in 1923 as a true-to-seed crossbred tomato, the Abe Lincoln tomato has become a favorite of home gardens and farmers alike. An indeterminate variety maturing in 87 days, it bears beautiful round red fruits in clusters of 6-9 weighing 8-12 oz each. A favorite slicer variety, producing in late summer, it is known for its distinctive sweet and flavorful taste. The fruit is meaty and resists cracking with heavy blooms producing more than enough for the whole family. This variety is preferred by those folks who have difficulty with higher-acid tomatoes. Ace is a vigorous med-large determinate tomato plant that was bred for the marketplace so it resists cracking. A good choice for a farmer's market tomato. Resistant to Fusarium Wilt, and Verticillium Wilt. Donated to USDA in 1965 from Michigan, USA, by the breeder – Asgrow Seed Company (the accession number: PI 645222).
