This is an extremely hardy plant. My dog broke this plant completely to the ground & by the next spring, it was over 6' tall. Very leggy & ununiform growth however.
This purple-leaved cultivar was developed at Morton Arboretum and is so similar to 'Royal Purple,' and holds the red-purple color well into the summer, though hot temperatures do lessen the brilliance of the red-purple pigments (anthocyanin) on most woody plants. It is supposed to be a little more cold hardy than the other purple-leaved cultivars.
