The Top Recommended Varieties of Gardenias

Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides)

I have 2 of these that were layered from a plant at our old house, cultivar unknown. They have been here since 2008. They are located on the west side of my garden shed. They receive about 1 hour of direct summer sun, but mostly shaded by numerous loblolly pines for the majority of the afternoon and evening sun.

Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides 'Frostproof')

Frostproof lives up to its name. Handles cold temperatures well, but as with all gardenias, will benefit from being planted in an area sheltered from winter winds. Cold, wet winds tend to desiccate the leaves contributing to "winter burn."

Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides 'August Beauty')

Beautiful double white blooms that smell heavenly. You can smell them long before you get to the plant. It can grow into a fairly large bush.

Tiare (Gardenia taitensis)

National flower of Tahiti, French Polynesia and the Cook Islands.

I have been propagating both standard and regular Jasminoides 'Aimee' for three years.
