A 19th-century variety that I grew in the 40's and 50's. This one and Oxheart were about the only varieties available that would produce in the heavy clay-based soil we had at that time.
Not one of my favorites. No uniformity at all. Grows ok but germination was not as good as the others.
Fantastic garden carrot. Very sweet. Grew well and uniformly. Will likely grow again.
This carrot variety, introduced in 1929, is a large stump rooted carrot with exceptional sweetness. It also has a notable history as being behind the case of Campbell Soup Company vs. Wentz (1948).
Rainbow is actually an excellent carrot, although I grew it for the novelty. Very tender and tasty in all its hues, quite productive and uniform in size and shape. Hues range from pure white through several shades of yellow to light orange. It is a single variety, not a mix, which makes it even more interesting.
This little round carrot should be harvested when it is roughly 1 1/2" in diameter. Because of its round shallow root, it is suitable for containers, or beds that have not been tilled very deep.
Black Nebula is a 7-9 inch solid purple carrot. Very dark in color and holds color well. Very primitive type with lots of side roots. An interesting novelty, but nothing more.
