What is this growing on my lawn? - Knowledgebase Question

This popped up overnight. I went out with the dog this afternoon and accidently kicked one of these and it "exploded" into what looks like beige and red saw dust. It will not come off my shoe. The patch pictured I dug up and down to 6 inches deep was white and powdery, almost dry rot looking. It almost looks like a slime mold, however, it has red shiny berry looking things in it and since the one I kicked just poofed everywhere, it is not lIke any slime mold I've seen before. My entire back yard smells like mildew now. I am unsure as to what it is and how to take care of it safely.

It might be slime mold. There are about 700 different types so I cannot narrow that down.

I believe you have discovered dog vomit slime mold. It won't hurt your plants. In fact, it helps break down nutrients that then become available to other plants. You can learn more about dog vomit and other slime mods here: https://www.thedailygarden.us/...
