Last year I planted a cone shaped boxwood in a cement urn on my front porch. It was fairly close to the brick and I watered it everyday but it started turning brown on the brick side and the brown eventually spread to the whole plant. This year I planted juniper (kept pulled out from the brick) and it did the exact same thing. Both times the plants were thriving and kept watered and fertilized. This is in Alabama and it did get hot. What could have caused this and what can I plant there. It is a covered porch and although hot is in the shade all day.

Problem is no sunshine. Get something that will grow in shade. 😎😎😎
