Several times I've tried growing basil. It will do well and then die. I follow instructions on the tag but the basil always seems to die. I potted the basil I purchased in good potting soil and put in sun as instructed. Also followed watering instructions. Plant still died. What am I doing wrong?

How disappointing for you! Have you tried pinching out just the tips of your basil plants? Pinching will encourage new stems and leaves and that might be all you plants need to start them growing. I'd also be careful about watering. Plants in containers can dry out quickly and you want to keep the soil moist, but you should allow the top half inch of soil to dry out between waterings. If soil remains saturated it can suffocate roots so be sure to allow it dry slightly between waterings. Enjoy your basil.
