lemon tree full of blooms in window; broke pot, must be re-potted. when should I do this, don't want to lose buds.

I think you can safely repot your tree right away. Just choose a pot of the same size as the broken one = or a pot just slightly larger. You won't have to disturb the root system, just slide the old pot off the roots and set the tree in the new container. You can fill in around the sides with moistened potting soil. Water it after repotting to help settle the soil around the root mass.
