I have a nice cactus someone gave me can it be planted in a yard that has full sun? If so do I have to mix something with the soil?

The answer really depends upon the type of cactus you have. Not all are hardy in your growing region. If this one is, you can plant it in your garden. Since your soil is clayey, I'd recommend amending the planting site with gravel and sand to facilitate good drainage. Or, you can mound up some amended soil and plant the cactus higher than the rest of the plants in your landscape. Good drainage is key to making cactus happy. Best wishes with your plant.
