We have six roses which we planted last spring. This area is quite cold now. Should we water roses in the winter? What other care do they need? (I'm from So. Calif. and NM is so different.) Thanks.

Your roses will need a deep soaking once each month during the wintertime - unless the ground is frozen. If it is frozen, no water is required. Prune your roses in January or February to prepare them for spring growth. Depending upon weather, you may see the leaf buds begin to swell in February. Aside from deep watering during the winter and late winter pruning, your roses will require the same regular feeding, watering and deadheading as they did in southern California. Enjoy your new garden!
