Spring is the best time to move your shrubs but if you're careful you can move them in late fall, after a frost has killed the leaves. Once a plant experiences a hard frost it will go into dormancy and won't mind being moved. Any roots accidentally severed during the digging won't cause wilting of the leaves or stems. After moving your shrubs, water them in well to help settle the soil. The roots will continue to grow as long as the soil temperature is above 40F which means both your shrubs will have several weeks of growing time before it's time to leaf out in spring.
