Perennials, Class 1 FAQ

Perennials, Class 1 FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Garden Design FAQ #1:

We moved into a new home late last summer and the garden was beautiful. Now it's spring and I'm starting to see sprouts, but I can't tell the weeds from the perennials. What should I do?

Answer:

Since there are already plants in the garden, you might want to simply observe the garden the first year. That way, you can begin to identify plants and observe their size and bloom time. As you become familiar with the existing plants and the growing conditions in your yard, you can decide if you want to add new plants or keep the gardens as they are. An experienced gardener, whether a neighbor or a professional from a local garden center, is a good source to help you identify plants and figure out how to care for them. Other good sources of information are public gardens, nurseries, perennials catalogs and Web sites, and garden centers. If you can contact the previous owners, they may be happy to help you get to know the gardens.
