Plant Parts as Food

 

We discussed in Exploring the Garden: Plant Growth and Diversity some of the different plant parts we eat. Remember that celery is the petiole and leaves, Brussels sprouts the axillary buds, etc.

In this section we’ll take a more systematic approach to the foods we eat. We’ll look a little more closely at the different plant parts we use as food, the role of these parts in the plant, and what type of nutrition they provide to us.
