Growing into a gardener
Posted on Feb 18, 2022 6:07 AM

I have browsed around the NGA website now about 5 months and believe it to be the place where I want to 'hang my hat'. I have kept an inventory of plants propagated and purchased, but still unsure how to design the gardens and maintain an inventory of each for future reference. I still have time, I think.

There are some very, very
knowledgeable plant and tech geeks involved in the ongoing operations of this website. The website is in the overhaul stage so minor bugs are popping up, only for Dave to squish 'em dead. He is very good at what he does and I can feel the passion of his work. The master gardeners, whom are easy to pick out, are experts beyond my level so I rely on their knowledge and experience to assist with my choices.

I have learned a different viewpoint this morning while reading a 5 year old thread under the propagation forum: The thread "The Ethics of Taking Cuttings" in Propagation forum It was interesting to see the heated debate about hypotheticals. What is more surprising is that even gardeners disagree quite often even then.
Before I forget, I need to mention Sharon, @Sharon. I finished reading her articles a while back and do miss her dearly, even though I never had a chance to meet her. Silly, huh? She had a way with her writings that pierced my heart. I could relate her stories to my upbringing, or maybe my wishful upbringing.
There is another member that I won't mention by name, but she is someone I admire for her gardening skills, kindness, and generosity. Did I mention friendly??? I think that one trait alone should be in everyone's pocket. The world would be in a better position if we all were a little friendlier. She is a beacon of hope for humanity and definitely an example of who I want to be as a gardener. At this time, I have no desire to be an MG, but I do enjoy the nuts and bolts of this hobby.
