WebTucker's blog: Field trip July 10 and 11, 2023

July 10, 2023
Today I ventured over to the northern wetland areas above Aberdeen lake park. The weather was perfect with an overcast of clouds and cool temperatures for a change. It's been devilishly hot the last week or so. The weather people keep talking about it a lot, and I just say to myself dang it all; it's July it's supposed to be hot.
Map of the area:

My route:

As I made my way around my route I made several stops. At each stop I would walk around a bit, through the woods or field or along the railroad tracks or along a stream. This is how I find new stuff. I added 3 new plant species and 1 moth today. I also found out that the Inaturalist app will make mistakes. You will see in the next graphic that it list a species Callisia ornata. That's wrong, it was actually the other species, grass-leaf roseling, graminea.

July 11, 2023 Weymouth Woods Sandhills nature preserve and Fort Liberty reservation:
The weather today was a bit warmer and with lots of sun but not too much humidity. The low humidity always makes it much better. I went to Weymouth specifically looking for crane fly orchid in bloom without success. Then I ventured over to Fort liberty to see what I could find. Nothing much found today except some mushrooms and 1 new moth. There was lots of stuff blooming but nothing new, although I did photograph some of the older stuff.
