Seedfork's blog: Nothing going on here but spring fever is running rampant, rant about tree cutters, first scape of the year.....03-08-2017

I am doing any little chore in the garden I can, just trying to get a small fix of spring in my system to ward off a bad case of spring fever. I have been fertilizing some of the plants I have moved. Normally I just think about doing some of these things, but it seems I am caught up and so I am actually moving the plants that need it for a change. Yesterday I moved a large clump of Baja (daylily), I had two clumps of it right next to each other in the rose bed, and now I am wanting to use that space for some new plants. I moved the large clump to the driveway drain bed. I got out this morning (after the rain again) and fertilized the plants I had recently moved. More rain is predicted for later in the week.

Now for a little rant just to let the steam escape and keep my head from exploding. The tree cutting crew arrived yesterday at 7:00, great start, normally these days no one is on time. Then things went downhill in a hurry. At 9:00 the crew of three finally got started, by 10:30 they had the first small tree on the ground. I have never seen such unorganized, unenergized, and just plain slow workers. They do keep a good eye on the break schedule, haven't been late for one yet. I think by the end of the day they had three maybe four small trees on the ground and cut up, nothing hauled off, just piled up in a not so big pile. So today they showed up at 7:30, by eight they had started to haul the cut material to their trailer. I wish you could see the kid hauling two small branches at a time, I am talking about two tiny little branches no bigger than one inch in diameter. No, this was not a one time affair, that is obviously how he normally does this job. A six year old could carry those two branches in one hand! I told my wife it was actually painful to watch this crew work, but she reminded me that I am not paying them, still I just don't know how long I can stand to have this crew here. With every trip they make back and forth they are packing my soil and it just makes he feel they need a job but I'll bet there are people out there that are actually willing to work that would love to have their job. Oh, by the way none of these are Mexicans or even immigrants, if this is what the typical American worker had evolved into they may become extinct!
While I was out putting some fertilizer down, I found the first scape of the year on one of my daylilies. Of course, it would be a NOID.
