NonaP's blog: Haying time

Posted on Aug 19, 2015 4:36 PM

Thank goodness for the window of dry we had two weekends ago. We were able to get enough hay for our horses for the winter, with some to spare. Unfortunately, all my daughters are away at school, or have jobs. A grand shout out to my 80 year old father in-law and my 75 year old mother in-law. Between my husband, me and these dear troopers we were able to put up 1,200 small bales and 30 large round bales of hay before the rain came for a few days. Our 1956 John Deere baler was a trooper too! Glad that job is over for another year. I was happy to get back to my day job and sit on a chair in the air conditioning!

Funny weather cycle here. Rain most of the early part of the summer. Now we could really use some of the wet stuff, but alas, it is not here. The corn crop is already turning as if it is the end of September instead of the end of August. Guess we'll be getting that job done early.

My youngest gets moved into college tomorrow morning. Sad, and happy, and sad, and excited.
