(NGM JAN 2010) New Year Resolutions That Will Help You Grow!

By: Michael Metallo

NATIONAL GARDEN MONTH®(NGM) 2010 is just a few short months away! Our JANUARY STORYLINE builds enthusiasm for the coming of a new growing season and the month-long garden party we celebrate each April.

If you're a gardener, making New Year's resolutions could mean a garden that's more productive and less work. But we gardeners sometimes find our resolutions hard to follow. What starts as good intentions, too often turns into a "just get it done" attitude by planting time.

The National Gardening Association estimates that 19 percent more people grew vegetables in 2009 than in 2008. We expect that trend to continue in 2010. While experienced gardeners may adhere easily to their annual gardening resolutions, beginner-intermediate gardeners will see real results by following through on eight simple suggestions. (Oh yes, and you experienced gardeners may learn a thing or two as well!)
