Well, it's definitely a plant. Whether you consider it a weed or not depends on whether you want it growing there or not.

Hopefully someone will give you a more useful answer.

Hahahah that made me laugh. Yes I guess I should have clarified my question is it a plant worth keeping or a weed? I have 2 of these growing in pots. Not sure what I had in there last year. Usually annuals of some sort. Sometimes things will reseed but this doesn't look familiar.

I was thinking dianthus as well...looks exactly like some containers I have that haven't yet bloomed this year.

Definitely Dianthus or Carnation. My mother used to love those and I've grown some from seed.
Ban the GMO tomato!

You know...
I've read stories about people ripping out entire rows of "weeds" only to later look for something they had planted...

I usually encourage only pulling plants that are known...
Better to have something we don't recognize that we later choose to remove than discover that we killed rare and unusual plants...

Seeing the pic... I thought dianthus too.
