Work of a leafcutter bee

Leafcutter bees cut circles of leaf tissue from many plants and line their nests with it. They nest in hollow stems or the ground. This is a redbud leaf.

I had to come see what eats leaves around the edges so neatly! Very cool banner, Laurie!

They always pick the same rose cultivar in my yard, making the leaves look like abstract art, but only that one (I forget which one).

Thanks, Rj, Nancy and Olga. I've seen this on various tree leaves and on rose leaves, too. Interesting that they are attracted to only one cultivar--it must be tasty! I've also seen circles of yellow daylily petals!

I just see it on one rose, most thankfully.

Informative banner - great job!

:thankyou:
I've never seen really heavy damage, so I don't think it causes much stress on the plants.
