I just built a cedar above ground gardening bed with nice fresh soil and manure that I built about four months ago. I just started planning some Store bought plants. Only the ones that I was that i never tried before to grow example brussels sprouts my daughter loves brussels sprouts never tried to grow them. Watch plants died almost overnight. I dug it out. It is infested with ants so I would guess the ants killed the plant so what do I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
No fire ants in Ct that I know of. No ant mound just random ants.
Garden bed has old branches on bottom a layer of leaves and a yard of mixture of topsoil and manure.
I'm thinking the ants came from the branches. I put a mixture of vinegar and baking soda with turmeric around plants because that's all I could find online that wouldn't damage the plants. So any thoughts would be great.

Photo? Are they fire ants? They're just loose, with no mounds?
If there were no plants there you could dump a lot of boiling water there to kill the ants instantly. Otherwise, I'd sprinkle Sevin Dust. Sevin is frowned upon by most here, but it will run off ants.
Ban the GMO tomato!

The ants didn't kill plant.
sevin dust should be avoided.
Dangerous stuff... Search "Bhopal disaster"...

Please post picture of bed, and plants, And... tell us about your watering at time of planting...

In all this rain it shouldn't be a moisture problem... Might be a problem of too much carbon in soil... (think sawdust).

No body else said fire ants. We don't have them here , yet. Plenty of regular ants at times, though.
Don't do Brussels in summer.
Anything else planted, and suffering, or growing?
Our typical ants up here will invade where they like, but once dug up will probably move. They pick up their babies and run.

Dig in again and see if the ants are still there with eggs etc. If not, replant.
Plant it and they will come.

Just the one plant so far. the root was compleatly gone.
plants growing is slow due to no sun for the past 10 days. Rain not heave just sprinkling for the most part. Soil is to me perfect not wet at all but moist.

Get some food grade diatomaceous Earth and sprinkle around the base of the plants. Your local garden centers should have it or order online.

Completely gone?
That sounds more like a vole or something.
