I have a rose bush that my gma (passed away May 2023) asked me to dig up and plant in my yard. Last year, it bloomed and looked good. This year, it's getting big and looks beautiful...but yesterday I saw a few yellow leaves with black spots. Upon further inspection, there was quite a bit. I cut away all of the affected leaves and stems. Cleaned up all of the leaves on the ground. As for an anti-fungal treatment, I am getting confused. Should I treat the surrounding ground, and spray the leaves thoroughly? Or will that burn the leaves? Do I spray at night, to avoid it baking in the sun? Thanks!

What bio-fungiced are you using?

IF, it is a true bio-fungicide it will burn nothing, nor is it poisinous in any way.
Do not use two or three-in-one types.

I douse the plant and the ground with a gallon/s per plant; some times just dumping it out of a 5 gallon pail and some times with a watering can, but then most of my roses are hybrid teas not huge bush roses.

Just spray the bush, making sure you get the foliage really well. Try to spray about an hour before sunset. That way, no problems with leaf burn. Follow the directions on mixing it. If the mix is to strong, it WILL burn the foliage.
It's a rose!!! It has nothing to do with life and death.

I don't use biofungicides, and don't saturate the ground as I don't want to kill all the different kinds of fungi that are part of the soil's healthy ecosystem. Instead, I use what I suppose some might call "chemical" fungicides (but of course, everything under the sun is comprised of chemicals so that term is sort of meaningless, but is often used to refer to fungicides that aren't "natural"). I use different fugicides for different types of fungus, and tend to alternate between two types (in terms of their mode of operation) to prevent the fungus from developing resistance. I use Aliette for Downy Mildew which has become a major problem in our gardens for the past two years, and use Heritage, Compass and BannerMAXX for Blackspot and powdery mildew. I never use the three-in-one products, because my plants rarely have all three of the problems they are designed to treat at the same time.

I use / have used / Serenade, Sonata, Oxidate and Actinovate SP.

Serenade and Sonata kill nothing but the disease they
were created to combat ; not reccomended but one can drink either and have no medical problems after.
Actinovate is also tech. harmless but is a good deal more expensive.

Oxidate is an acid and works in a different manner but is as toxic as any acid for medical purposes; it works great but you have to be more careful.

I have purchased from Seven Springs Farm Supply

Cease is the same thing as Serenade but a lot more expensive.

The place I purchased Sonata seems to be out right now but this place has it at a good price.

I buy the large 2.5 gallon jugs as they are cheaper and some the smallest amount available.
There are others, but do an in depth check as to what is is made of.
I spent over an hour checking this stuff out before I ever bought it.
Remember there are fungicides and BIO-fungicides -- not the same thing. I tip my hat to you.

For something organic that actually works, I found chitosan powder mixed with potassium bicarbonate did a great job of preventing fungal diseases. For a quart of water mix one teaspoon of P.B. and half that amount of the chitosan. Both of these products are food safe, meaning, people can put them in their diets, mixed with water, of course and they dissolve in the water. The products are online at Amazon.
Love covers a multitude of sins......thank God!
