I'm in trouble... sort of. When I brought everything in for the winter, I couted up 10-12 alos and colos.

And then I got an E-Mail about a really neat colocasia called Redemption. But, it isn't cheap. Upon doing some research, I found a shop on Etsy that has it and a couple of others that I'd love to have.

Since at least one of my BIG and old rhododendron in back is dying, I'll have a new semi-sunny spot. And with it being in the area of the still-in-the-planning-stage water feature, it wouldn't take much more to re-route the stream to keep them watered. Of course, there's always the issue of winter storage.....................

I have had the big Alocasia, possibly portora, which I have shared. I have not tried keeping it in ground thru winter. I feel like the top main bud would freeze and start a nasty rot in the trunk.
I keep mine in a huge blue pot and pull it out come fall, for winter storage. I mean, remove entirely from that pot to shake off the soil, them prop in a smaller pot. Or break off pups. Been thru this a number of years now.
I have also kept a black Colocasia, probably Black Runner, and Have had that survive winter a couple times in some form, sprouts from the runners.
Plant it and they will come.

So, I bought a bag of EE's at Costco. The nearly fist-sized tubers have been sitting in pots of moist potting mix for 6 weeks. They all pushed out 1/2" green tips almost right away (some had them in teh bag) but have done nothing since... no roots, either. Suggestions?

Mine have stalled as well. A short growth burst once they were moved outside and watered. Nothing for the past week.

Did you ever get the 'Redemption' and is it as pretty as the PDN catalog pic?

No, I didn't get the Redemption. After pulling everything outside, I decided that I had enough... for now Whistling

I decided I wanted to actually see those leaves up close and in person before investing the big $ for Redemption. Naturally no one around here has that one yet. Shrug!

I think it has been reclassified as a Caladium.

That's stunning! I'm glad it's just shades of green. The name reminds me of an elementary school joke, "what goes green red green red green red?"
