There's a wide swath of these off the shore in one of the lagoons at Chicago Botanic Garden. When the sun is hitting them, it gives them a very delicate look, like a water color painting.

I saw this banner and thought "I bet this is Nancy!" I was right! it's absolutely beautiful with that almost translucent pink. Those leaves are also a stunning green.

Yes, I do love those water lilies and lotus! I'd upload more for banners, but I think whoever does the selecting wants more variety.
Thank you all. Here's all the shots in order from that spot, it was the last photo I used for the banner, just flipped it left to right. They look translucent when the sun is behind them, as it was in these pics, and they seem to always face the brightest light, so it makes the petals look like they glow at times.

Wow! Thanks for all the extra pics, Nancy!
I love the way the leaves & blooms light up.
Hope you will try growing some.

Thanks, Joanna and Cal. I'm going to have to try and find out what variety that particular one is, it's my favorite there, probably because of how it appears to light up with the sun behind it. It's in a larger lagoon in the right spot for that... a lot of the others are in smaller pools around paths or between walkways built around them, so they can't get the sun behind them like that.
