I've had different selections of perennial plants along the west side of my garage. I once had a fair amount of strawberries, but they only did well for a few years. I had an Oriental Fountaingrass on the south end for several years, but it grew so thick and keep spreading too much. The last few years I went all native with the tallest plant being a Spike Gayfeather (Liatris spicata), then several Little Bluestem grasses that nice and soft and don't spread all over the place, though they are slowly spreading by seed. I planted one Wild-Petunia several years ago and it keeps spreading a lot by seedlings to eventually fill the whole planting area. Then I have one Steeplebush Spirea on the north end.

Your garden looks lush! It is always better to have more good plants than weedy invasives!
I have the same wild petunia growing in what we call our meadow, but it is in dappled shade all day under old-growth trees. It is a volunteer here. Your garden looks like full sun, you said it is the west side, am I right or is it less than 8 hours, some shade maybe? If I could move some of my petunias to a more sunny area that would help fill in areas rather than spending money on plants that might not agree with my soil pH, etc.

Yes, the Wild Petunias love full sun and a soil moist or dry. My rectangular bed along the garage there is in full day sun and gets to be a hot place later in the afternoon in June through August. Wild Petunias self-sow a lot, so transplanting some to a new area will also bring some more plants by their dropping seed around.
