Mr. Niels Hansen is the hybridizer of the lovely rose "Lillian Gibson" introduced in 1938. I first learned of him many years ago and of his development of plants suited for cold, frigid climates. I ordered the rose "Lillian Gibson" about 30+ years ago and now keep three plants in my landscape. They reward me each passing year with unfailing delicate beauty.
Niels Ebbesen Hansen (January 4, 1866 β October 5, 1950) was a Danish-American horticulturist, botanist, and agricultural explorer for the United States Department of Agriculture and the state of South Dakota. He searched the harsh environments of northern Scandinavia, Siberia, Manchuria, and the dry steppes of the Volga for plant stock that could flourish on the upper Great Plains.
