purchased seed Menards. Burpee Seeds. Started in peat pots Feb 26, 2024, with moistened seeding media. Good germination. Transplanted outside mid-March (we are having an early spring). Covered with temporary tulle. March 30th created 3 ft tall wire cages approx 2 ft diam and covered with tulle. aka Tuscan Kale. From Italy. Sweeter, milder, heavily crinkled blue-green strap leaves. Harvest when young and after first frost. From Seed Indoors: Start: mid to late Feb Transplant: April to early May. Damping off is caused by a fungus that is active when there is abundant moisture and soils and air temperatures are above 68 degrees. Don't overwater seedlings. Avoid overhead watering. Use lightwt row cover or tulle immediately after planting out to prevent cabbageworm and looper. Keep covered entire season. |
