One way to reuse cheese, yogurt, coleslaw and ice cream tubs is to turn them into plant-pots. Just drill four or five holes in the bottom. A 500 g (17-18 oz) container is roughly equivalent to a 4" plant pot. You can go up to all the way to a 1 gallon ice-cream tub, which is big enough for any bushy herb, or down to the single-serving pudding or apple-souce cups, which are just right for seed starter pods.
They last six years or even longer if not exposed to strong sunlight - longer than the cheap commercial plastic pots, and much longer than the paper-thin ones made for nurseries.
What they are not is pretty, and they don't hold acrylic paint well. I suppose you can decorate them with oil-based spray paint, or cover them in coloured foil. I only need them for plant propagation, so appearance doesn't matter.
