Back in the fall I got some Smithiantha seeds off ebay from Thad Scaggs. They are doing quite well, but whats even better is the freebie seeds that were sent along with them! They've grown so much since this pic, they are getting bigger by the day! Also, they LOVE jiffy pellets and bottom heat! I've never seen anything do so well in a jiffy pellet! It looks like there's 4 different types here and I'm pretty sure the one at 12 o'clock is some sort sinningia...or maybe they all are?
The leaves on 12 o'clock are turning out to be quite beautiful.
I've recently aquired some new gesneriads that I am quite excited about! Not only because they are new to me but because I plan on breeding them once they settle in and grow up a bit. For now I'm going to keep the crosses I'm planning to myself but some of the plants I plan on working with are Chiritas, Codonanthe and Neathamanthus. Lets hope this is the start of something new and exciting!
The last few months I have really been enjoying gardening indoors, many of the problems of gardening outside simply go away..........and I like that! Gardening under lights also makes the most of my space since I live on a small urban lot.
Here's a few of my plants that I grow under lights....
Mini Sinningia 'Glory Be', this ones growing in a 3oz cup!
Streptocarpus 'Texas Hot Chilli', the red on this one is really something!
African Violet 'Mac's Pizza Pizzacato', the little crinkled leaves are a nice feature!
Last one for tonight is Oxalis 'Velvet Sunset', this one goes outside for the summer but its grows really well under lights the rest of the year, the colour is a real deep orange when it's inside.
This is my first blog post of what will hopefully be many, my blog will be about gardening in the city, to give you an idea of the yard were I garden, it's about the size of a roomy one car garage. This first post will share a few photos.
