Hello. I put Coleus and Begonias in a pot this year and they played nicely with each other. There was originally a 3rd plant in there too but it was overwhelmed by the other 2. And now I noticed that the Coleus and Begonias are of similar colors. This is my first time planting Coleus and I have been amazed by how big it grew!

I'd like to plant Coleus again next year in the same pot. What do you recommend as a good companion plant, both in terms of complimenting Coleus's colors as well as competing effectively for space?

How gorgeous!!

Anything that dangles/spills over the sides & also likes the same light exposure should work well. I bring mine inside for winter.

Coleus & Begonias do well at the bottom of taller potted plants.

The formula for plant combos in containers i " Thriller (in the middle ) Filler,Spiller.
I have found coleus come is all sizes and shapes.
The website RosyDawn http://www.rosydawngardens.com... has lists of coleus and what type they are. I place my order early in the year.
I tend to buy the tall ones and it seems a good idea except until now when they overpower the container.
Good fillers are calibrachoa ( superbells) they fill and spill. Wave petunias, pelargonium geraniums. I like certain varieties of trailing coleus as spillers.

Gary, Here are my planters. I noticed many more annuals than I originally listed.

Don't laugh, I would do the same thing next year, but with a different coleus. Coleus and begonias always do well together. Try a brighter coleus. Or add an impatiens.

Thinking more on this , why not mix them? One pot with Coleus and Impatiens, one of Impatiens and Begonias, and one of Begonias and Coleus?

I like blue flowering annuals with coleus.
Lobelia works well.
