Pyramid Composter

by Charlie Nardozzi

And now, the latest evolution in home composters: a self-watering composter. Well, it's not quite self-watering, but the new Pyramid Composter does have a novel lid that captures about 25 percent of the rainwater that hits it and, through a trough system, evenly distributes the water through the compost pile. This system keeps the compost pile moist. It also makes composting faster and easier. If rainfall is inadequate, simply pour water in the composter roof. Not only does the compost stay moist, but the 90 vents on the sides of the unit provide essential air circulation.

At 28 inches long, 28 inches wide, and 34 inches high, the Pyramid Composter holds 12 cubic feet of compost. The lid pops off from any side, and the 18- by 13-inch door is on a 1-inch-wide track that doesn't clog easily.

The composter is available from Gardener's Supply Company. Call (800) 955-3370 or visit http://www.gardeners.com for more information.
