| I live in MD-the MidAtlantic region and I have coneflowers in 2 different locations. The ones alone are doing great; however, the ones planted with shasta daisies are being destroyed by something! Everything i read about them says how easy, carefree and how few pest problems they have. What do you think it is? |
| What you've read is true - except maybe in your garden! Shasta daisies sometimes are bothered by earwigs. These pests hide during the day but feed on the petals of Shasta daisies during the night. If only the petals are eaten, this might be the culprit. You can trap earwigs by making tubes out of a sheet of newspaper, moistening them and setting them in your garden at night. The earwigs will crawl in to hide. In the morning you can fold the ends of the newspaper tubes to trap the earwigs and then throw the trap in your garbage (or bury it so you don't have earwigs running all over your garbage can!). Repeat until no more damage appears on your coneflowers or daisy flowers. |
