What is the name of the type of gerber daisies that come in bouquets? The ones with the long stems? I have many gerber daisy plants but the flowers never grow as long as the ones in store bought bouquets. I would like to grow large gerber daisies with long stems from seed but don't know their exact name or type. Thank you. |
Gerbera daisies have the potential to grow 12-18" long stems but without a controlled environment such as a greenhouse, I don't think you'll be able to get yours to replicate those in floral arrangements. Believe it or not, most of the gerbera daisies grown for the floral trade are actually grown in the Netherlands and shipped here. They are species Transvaal daisies. Most of the plants you find in nurseries are hybrids, bred for shorter size and more colorful flowers. You may be able to scour seed catalogs for a source of species gerbera daisies. If you find some, I hope they perform beautifully for you! |
