| Blood oranges are known for their high vitamin C, potassium, carotene and dietary fiber contents, all of which have extensive health benefits. All blood oranges tend to contain few seeds, and have red-pigmented flesh and peel that can cause a "blush" of pigment when the peel is damaged or removed. The red pigmentation varies with climate and can be intense when blood oranges are grown in regions with large diurnal temperature fluctuations (hot days, cold nights). Although blood oranges are grown in southern California, Texas and Arizona, the fruits do not compare with those grown in Italy (where they originiated). For this reason you may have difficulty finding a Blood Orange tree in your local garden center. If you are able to find one, the cultural requirements will be the same as for any citrus tree: ample water, full sunshine and frequent feeding during the growing season.
