I want to start columbines from seed this spring. The seed package recommends prechilling the seeds for increased germination, but gives no indication as to how long to prechill the seeds or at what temperature. Do you have a recommendation?

You can put your seeds in a plastic bag and store them in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks to give them the required cold-treatment. Columbine (Aquilegia) seeds will take 30-90 days to germinate at 65F -75F degrees.
