I am getting ready to plant Oleander bushes as a hedge. When is the best time of year to plant them? |
Early spring or fall are the best times to plant shrubs, but you can actually plant them anytime as long as the ground is not frozen. You want to avoid planting on summer days when that Georgia heat is sweltering. It being December, you don't needto worry about that! Some tips to keep in mind when planting new shrubs: I like to plant on an overcast day or in the early evening if possible. That way your shrubs have a bit of a chance to process their new environment before having to absorb sunlight. Particularly windy days are also something to avoid, the wind will quickly dry out the roots. Be sure to dig all of your holes in the new area so they will be ready and waiting (but not more than a day in advance). The less time the roots are exposed to sun and air the better. |
