| A friend just gave some Calla Lily seed pods. They are still connected to the plant stalk. How do I get these ready to plant and when do I plant them. I understand they like full sun or partial shade. Is that correct? Thanks, Jack |
| Allow the seed pods to dry to a tannish brown color and the pods should split open all on their own. If not, you'll be able to see a line running the length of the pod and if you press the pod between your thumb and forefinger, it should pop open. Save the seeds (in an airtight container kept in a cool, dark location) until the weather warms in the spring. Then soak the seeds overnight in warm water, sow just on the surface of the soil, press them in lightly, and keep them in a light location where the temperature remains between 70F-80F. Seeds will sprout in 30-90 days. Calla lilies prefer acidic, humus rich soil, full sun (or light afternoon shade). Keep soil moist but not soggy wet. Enjoy! |
