All winter long, my grandmother would through her egg shells onto the vegetable garden area. In the spring, the shells would be truned into the soil. She always had a beautiful garden so I trust this can not be harmful and may even be helpful. My question is, can too many egg shells make the soil overly rich in calcium, and bad for plants? |
Unless you are talking about a truckload of eggshells at a time, I would not expect them to cause a problem, particularly if you are adding the eggshells along with a good mixture or variety of other materials. Many gardeners routinely add the family kitchen's supply of eggshells to the compost with good results. |
